Why does doing good deeds make you feel SO good?

Especially when you haven’t really gone out of your way lately to do something genuinely nice for someone…the feeling just smacks you in the face…in a kind, good way of course.

So if it makes us feel super duper awesome, why not do it more? Why not make it into a profession and call it PDG: professional do gooder? It would be like an around-the-clock Santa Claus…someone I counted on very much for the first 13 years of my life as some of you know.

I won’t lie, I kind of put ‘get into college’ on my Christmas a year ago.

Anyway, I know there are plenty of organizations like the Make A Wish Foundation and other volunteer programs that people participate in to be good Samaritans…but what if you were your own organization?

Be the anonymous person that leaves a bag of groceries on someone’s door who you know needs it.

I am in NO way saying do not join a volunteer organization, I’m just saying that in addition, another cool way to be nice is to do it on your own without anybody knowing.

And this is hard, I know, with social media at the tip of our fingers. We crave to report our good doings to our family, friends, and “friends” to receive a nice number of 17 likes!

That’ll make me sleep easy.

But in my opinion, I think keeping your Santa Claus alter ego a secret will give you more satisfaction than even subtly telling your co-worker about it.

I mean, have we learned nothing from watching all these Superhero films?

They are awesome because no one knows who they really are. Of course, eventually, they’re actions become so great that sometimes their identity becomes exposed to a small number people…but that only happens at the end of the movie.

So, be patient, people will begin to see your hero cape soon enough. But for now, enjoy your naughty secrets of making people’s day.

I do so many references to Christmas…I am afraid what is to come in December…but I do hope someone makes my day!
