Are you getting the summer blues and don’t know why? Maybe they have already passed or you feel yourself just about to dive into a blue pool that is not full of chlorine and inflatable killer whales.
Whatever the case may be, it happens to almost everyone, so you’re not alone…which ironically is one of the main factors for getting the sunshine blues in the first place.
It seems this is especially typical for students coming back home from freshman year of college.
Just when it seems you had it all figured out with new friends, classes, career paths, and experiences…
It’s over.
Really, it’s not, but when you’re a substantial distance from your school…it’s kind of hard not to think it was all just a crazy dream and now you’re stuck in rut of nameless days.
But hello! It’s summer! Not school!
I know, I know…but hear me out when I say school is comforting for many people.
Sure it is extremely stressful at times but deep, deep, down in a hidden place you don’t want to admit in front of your cool leather jacket friends that school is comforting.
And it is, because even though you might not have a clue of what you want to be or do with your life, at least you’re in school doing something. Your brain thinks, “you must be doing something right.”
So I’ll say it…school is…school is healthy! Goodbye my 500 Facebook friends. We had some good times poking around and…if I never got to say "I like you" in person...well it’s probably because I couldn’t find the ‘like’ button on you.
Anyway, it is comforting to know that you have something going for you. Even certain exams put us in the adrenaline rush mode that we all crave every once and awhile…or everyday…my city didn’t approve the roller coaster to replace the playground surprisingly.
So we feel summer has betrayed us, like summer grew up, got a dream job, and has the perfect relationship and family life.
Kind of like what we all want right NOW. Not all, but some of us are extremely anxious to obtain our visions of life…or at least feel like we’re walking closer to them.
But in the la-la land of summer where it’s easy to to get distressed at our intangible goals…it kind of makes us a little crazy at first, but ultimately…sad.
So what to do?
The real question is what NOT to do!
Do, do, do, and do things people! Ha-ha…do, do.
Looks like I’ve greatly matured.
Anyway, I know it’s hard when all you want to do is sleep, but taking initiative is key.
Who cares if you’re the person to ask other people to hang out? Are you going to wait all day for the phone ring? Are you going to wait all night for the pizza to magically appear without making the phone call?
Because trust me that was a long night.
Call the peeps you love or have been wanting to love and Nike.
All you need is one simple plan to be unplanned and planned again just for it to turn into a beautiful disaster that will make you feel as young as the toddler with two iPads…one for work and one for creative side-projects of course.
Once you get into the spin of…well, people...you’ll remember that your happiness never really relied solely on a season.
And that kids is the true meaning of Christm- I mean summer.
