It looks as if things may be over  between Katy Perry and  John Mayer.

A source has confirmed to People that the couple has called it quits after seven  months of dating.  Katy and John  started making headlines last summer, less than a year  after Katy's divorce from Russell Brand.

The relationship appeared to be getting serious last December when the  two spent Christmas together.  They've made a number of appearances as a  couple at some high profile events this year as well, including the Presidential  Inauguration and the Grammys.

It's not the first  time breakup rumors have followed Katy and  John.  Their split was reported prematurely back in August.

Last month, it appeared that Mayer, who has a reputation as a serial  celebrity dater, could have been changing his ways  for Katy.  On "CBS Sunday Morning," he  called the relationship "very human" and said he could see himself getting  married someday.

Speaking of Katy, fans may not be amused by what the star's  ex-husband Russell Brand had to say about their brief marriage.

During an interview with the XFM London radio show on Monday, the  quick-talking funnyman spoke freely when asked about the lavish Indian wedding  he gave Katy when the two married in  2010.  Giving advice to single men, Russell said sarcastically to think of  marriage as nothing but a "sacred, 14-month arrangement" that "begins on an  elephant" and "ends in a newspaper."

The  couple's high-profile divorce has resurfaced in the headlines over the past  month after Russell hinted that he would be writing  about Katy in the third installment of his  "Book Wook" personal tell-all series.

Katy was rumored to have signed a  three million dollar book deal to tell her side of the story as well, but her  rep denied the reports on Monday.
